Major Street Racing Enforcement Operation in Bakersfield

(Bakersfield, CA) — Two arrests were made, and nearly a dozen cars impounded after a street racing incident in Bakersfield. Officers said yesterday that they were called to the area near Wenatchee and University Avenues on Sunday night after reports were made of over 500 bystanders watching close to 300 vehicles involved in street racing activities. One suspect was arrested after hitting an officer in the face with a glass bottle, and another after he tried to run away from police on a motorcycle. The group changed locations several times before officers caught up with them in a parking lot in northwest Bakersfield, where ten vehicles were impounded. Authorities say that it is not just a law enforcement problem, but also a community problem.
