California Governor Slams Rolling Power Blackouts

(Sacramento, CA) — California Governor Gavin Newsom is calling the rolling blackouts during the heat wave unacceptable and is demanding an investigation. Newsom issued an emergency proclamation last night that suspends air pollution regulations and allows utilities to freely use generators and other backup power sources to ease pressure on the grid. The grid manager, California Independent System Operator, has been intermittently shutting off the power since Friday and encouraging conservation. Newsom says regulators didn’t provide enough warning of possible blackouts and said they are “unbefitting of the nation’s largest and most innovative state” and “cannot stand.”
