California’s Turnaround Time For COVID-19 Testing Drops

(Sacramento, CA) — Californians who get tested for coronavirus may be able to get their results faster. State health officials say the typical turnaround time for COVID-19 tests has dropped to less than two days. Results now are available from labs within one-point-three days on average, down from five- to seven business days. The improvement comes as California plans to ramp up testing this fall. The plan is to more than double the average of nearly 104-thousand tests a day to 250-thousand by March. It will also allow the state to begin surveillance testing, which would refine testing so that it’s targeting the right people and allowing health officials to better predict the track of the disease.
