Poll: Affirmative Action Prop 16 Losing

(Sacramento, CA) — New research from the Public Policy Institute of California shows Californians do not support reinstating affirmative action. The poll reports 47-percent would not support Proposition 16, which would repeal a 1996 ban on affirmative action in public education and hiring decisions. Only 31-percent of people polled want the ban repealed and 22-percent are still undecided. Supporters of the bill argue that restoring affirmative action would ensure more demographics a fair shot at success. Proposition 16 will be on the ballot for November’s election.
