California To Stop Accepting Unemployment Claims For 2 Weeks

(Sacramento, CA) — California residents won’t be able to file unemployment claims for the next two weeks. State officials say they’re resetting the system to speed up payments and repair a backlog of unprocessed claims. Nearly 600-thousand residents are affected by the backlog and haven’t had their claims processed in at least the past three weeks. Officials are also planning to install technology that will cut down on fraud after this so-called “rest period” is up. More than two-million Californians are out of work amid the coronavirus pandemic.
