BPD Determine Officers’ Actions Within Rules

UPDATE: The Critical Incident Review Board determined that all shots fired by Bakersfield Police officers during the officer involved shooting on August 17, 2021, in the 10 block of P Street were within department policy and within legal requirements. Chief Terry concurs with the Review Board’s findings. The officers have been returned to full duty.

PREVIOUS:

On Monday, August 17, 2020 at approximately 11:07 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Watts Drive at Lotus Lane regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival officers located an adult male and adult female suffering from stab wounds. Both victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. They are in stable condition. Officers located a third stabbing victim in the area of the initial dispatch location and learned that the suspect had carjacked that victim when fleeing the area. That victim declined medical aid. The suspect was involved in a hit and run incident in the stolen vehicle and abandoned the vehicle in the area of Brundage and T Streets and fled on foot. He was contacted by officers in the area of P Street and Brundage Lane and an officer involved shooting took place. Knives were recovered from the suspect, who was transported to an area hospital for treatment; however, he succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. No officers were injured.
