Two Arrested, One Felon in High-Speed Pursuit

The Bakersfield Police Department have arrested two Bakersfield residents after they were found in possession of a stolen vehicle. The full release is below:

On September 25th at about 11:19 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a vehicle for having fraudulent license plates in the area of Olive Drive at Knudsen Drive. The vehicle failed to yield and led officers on a vehicle pursuit in the Rosedale area. Officers terminated the vehicle pursuit for public safety reasons; however, the vehicle was tracked with assistance from the KCSO Patrol Helicopter (Air 1).

Despite no police units being in pursuit, the suspect vehicle was involved in a single vehicle collision at Hageman Road and Clay Patrick Farr Way as it continued to travel with no regard for public safety. Two occupants fled on foot from the vehicle and were taken into custody in the area. Timothy Smith (30) of Bakersfield and Brytnye Worsham (20) of Bakersfield were placed under arrest.

Smith was determined to be a convicted felon on Post Release Community Supervision with multiple arrest warrants from Orange County. The suspect vehicle was determined to have been stolen. Worsham was taken into custody while attempting to climb a brick wall. While taking her into custody officers located a loaded firearm in her waistband.

Both arrestees were charged with conspiracy, possession of a stolen vehicle and associated weapons charges. Smith has an additional charge of felony evading.

One officer sustained superficial injuries during the foot pursuit and was treated with first aid.
