The full release is below:

On Tuesday, November 16th, at approximately 5:48 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a multiple vehicle injury collision involving ten vehicles in the 2100 block of Union Avenue.

As a result of the collision, one involved motorist was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries, an additional involved motorist was transported to an area hospital with stable injuries. Three additional involved parties complained of pain; however, declined medical transportation.

The investigation revealed that vehicles were slowing or stopped for a northbound red traffic light, when a Chevrolet Silverado, traveling northbound failed to slow for the traffic and struck a vehicle. The initial collision then caused a chain reaction, with the initial vehicles continuing forward, striking the other involved vehicles.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado fled the scene prior to law enforcement arrival. Speed appears to be a factor in the initial collision. This is an ongoing investigation being handled by investigators with the Bakersfield Police Department Major Collision Investigation Team.
