BPD Arrest Former BC Student for Murder

The Bakersfield Police Department has arrested a man who received national attention in 2019 for a poem criticizing ICE before being arrested by the agency. The full release is below:

On Thursday, November 18th, 2021 at approximately 5:00 PM, officers with the Bakersfield Police Department located and apprehended Jose Omar Reyes Bello (24) of Bakersfield, in the 200 block of Monterey. Bello was arrested for an active murder warrant from Tulare County. During his arrest, Bello attempted to evade capture and was taken into custody with the assistance of a police K9. Bello was treated for minor injury at an area hospital, medically cleared and transferred into the custody of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office.

A subject that was in the company of Bello, identified as Henry Venegas (38) of Bakersfield, did not resist officers and was taken into custody with no incident. Venegas had an arrest warrant unrelated to Bello for attempted murder and robbery, stemming from an offense in the City of Bakersfield on November 6th, 2021.
