Two Juveniles Hit and Killed by a Vehicle in South Bakersfield

UPDATE: Greenfield Union School District has identified one of the victims as a student at Granite Pointe Elementary.A statement was issued by the district:

Greenfield Union School District is saddened by the tragic loss of Granite Pointe student, Caylee Brown.  Caylee was a 5th-grade student who was described as soft-spoken and reserved, yet very bright and intelligent.  The district has grief counselors and other support staff available for students, staff, and parents.  These services will be available this week and next week as needed.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Caylee’s family during this difficult time.

UPDATE: The driver involved has been arrested by police.

BPD has issued an updated release:

Further investigation identified the driver as Lisa Core (46) of Bakersfield. Traffic Investigators determined Core was driving under the influence of a controlled substance when she drove her vehicle onto the sidewalk killing two pedestrians. The two pedestrians that were previously reported as two juveniles, were later identified as, a 10 year old child, and teenage (19) adult male.

Core has been arrested and charged with two (2) counts of PC 187 – Murder, two (2)counts of PC 191.5 – Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated, CVC 23152 –Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, CVC 14601.2 Driving a Motor Vehicle w/Suspended License due to DUI Conviction and CVC 23550 4th Time DUI Offender. Core once cleared by medical staff for her injuries will be booked into the Kern County Jail.

The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating what led a woman to leave the road and hit two juvenile pedestrians causing fatal injuries.

On Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, at 1:16 P.M. the Bakersfield Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Panama Lane regarding a major injury collision involving a vehicle versus two pedestrians.

Two juvenile pedestrians were found to have sustained major injuries and were declared deceased at the scene. The adult female driver sustained minor injuries from the collision and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The identity of the juveniles will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver for unknown reasons left the roadway onto the sidewalk, fatally striking both juveniles. The vehicle then continued into a tree before coming to rest. The Major Collision Investigation Team has assumed the investigation. The roadway of Panama Lane from Monitor Street to South H Street will be closed for several hours. This investigation is ongoing.
