The child is alive and the parents arrested after police responded to a call of a child not breathing in Bakersfield on Saturday.

On January 15th, at 1:58 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of a baby not breathing in the 8200 block of Kroll Way. The caller described the child (1 year old male) as being blue in color and not breathing. Responding officers began CPR and successfully revived the child and continued treatment until relieved by responding medical aid personnel.

The investigation revealed that the child was experiencing a Fentanyl overdose due to exposure to narcotics paraphernalia. The child was transported to an area hospital and is currently in stable condition. Both parents were arrested for felony charges after officers discovered Fentanyl and narcotics paraphernalia in the residence, including in the child’s crib.

The child is currently in the custody of Child Protective Services and this is an ongoing investigation.

The Bakersfield Police Department continues to advocate for community awareness regarding the dangers of Fentanyl in partnership with local law enforcement, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

On Thursday, January 20th, at 6:30 PM, Bakersfield Recovery Services is presenting a Fentanyl Forum and Panel Discussion which will be live streamed on the Bakersfield Recovery Services’ Facebook page and via KGET-TV 17. Area law enforcement will be conducting a Q&A panel to educate the public.
