Man Shot Confronting Suspected Thieves in Northwest Bakersfield

A Bakersfield resident was hospitalized after being shot at a residence Monday night. The Bakersfield Police Department are looking for three suspects.

On February 21st, 2022, at 11:49 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 11500 block of Jimrik Avenue. The investigation revealed that a resident heard noises outside of his residence and went outside to investigate. He was confronted by a suspect to the front of his residence who was armed with a shotgun. The resident was told to go back into his residence and as he turned around to comply, he was shot in the back.

The suspect fled into a waiting vehicle described as a possible: Red, Older-model Toyota Tacoma truck

An additional resident from the victim’s residence exited and subsequently fired one time at the suspect vehicle with a handgun. Based upon the investigation, prior to the shooting the three suspects were circulating the neighborhood in the above described vehicle attempting entry into numerous parked vehicles.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There is no indication that any of the suspects were struck by the return gunfire.

This is an on-going investigation.
