Woman Arrested for DUI after Fatal Central Bakersfield Crash

A man has died and a dozen apartments had to be evacuated, all because of what Bakersfield Police say was a drunk driver. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, 29-year-old Kimberly Phommasouk was driving her SUV eastbound on White Lane near Vaughn Way before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night, when she made a left turn directly in front of an oncoming car. The adult male driver of that vehicle died at the scene. His car was pushed into a gas main, causing a leak, which led to evacuations of the apartments for about an hour-and-a-half. PG&E handled the leak.

The woman driving the S-U-V was hospitalized with minor injuries, and is under arrest for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated, Felony Driving Under the Influence Resulting in Death, and Driving Under the Influence with Blood Alcohol Concentration Greater than .08%. She will be booked once medically cleared.
