A standoff close to nine hours long has ended with the arrest of a man for assault on an officer among other charges.

On April 7th, at approximately 1:00 AM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to the 200 block of Tollhouse Drive regarding a request for assistance from the Bakersfield City Fire Department. An adult male subject, later identified as Alexander Fuentes (34) of Bakersfield, was behaving erratically, setting fires in various areas of the property and was possibly armed with a firearm.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Fuentes, who was not cooperative and armed with what appeared to be a pellet or bb gun. Fuentes fled into the residence and barricaded himself while threatening first responders with a machete. Bakersfield City Fire was able to extinguish fires which were threatening nearby residences.

At around 10:00 AM, Fuentes was taken into custody utilizing less-lethal foam baton rounds.

He was placed under arrest for resisting officers with violence and assault on an officer, additional charges regarding the fires are pending. During the standoff, an officer was struck in the head by a projectile fired from the pellet gun, resulting in minor injury.
