The full release can be seen below:

On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at about 4:28 PM, Bakersfield Police officers responded to the Travelodge at 1011 Oak Street regarding a stabbing that just occurred. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male in the west parking lot suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers and medical aide personnel attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the victim and an additional adult male, later identified as Andrew Ceballos (age 23), were involved in a verbal conflict that escalated into a physical fight. During the fight, Ceballos stabbed the victim multiple times, causing his death. Ceballos was contacted at a residence in southwest Bakersfield at about 6:00 PM and was detained without incident.

Ceballos was later arrested for murder and booked into the Kern County jail. There are no outstanding suspects, but the investigation is ongoing. The victim’s identity will be released later by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
