The Bakersfield Police Department has taken a 35-year-old man into custody related to his infant’s death in September of last year.

On April 25th, 2022, at 3:00 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department arrested Gregory Higgins (35) of Bakersfield in the 9100 block of Kern Canyon Road. Higgins was arrested for a murder warrant related to a homicide investigation which began on September 15th, 2021.

On September 15th, 2021, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of a 7-week-old infant not breathing at a residence in the 9600 block of Waterbury drive. The infant was transported to an area hospital, where trauma consistent with child abuse was discovered. The infant later was declared deceased. Pursuant to the investigation, Gregory Higgins, the biological father, was identified as the suspect.
