On May 6, 2022, at 11:19 pm, officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to the area of Highway 14 and Rosamond Blvd., in Rosamond, for a report of a male subject setting fires in the area along Highway 14.  Two Highway Patrol officers responded and located a subject who matched the description of the suspect in the 2500-block of Rosamond Blvd.  When the two officers contacted the subject, the subject began attempting to assault the two officers with a sharp weapon.  One of the officers attempted to control the suspect with a taser, but that was ineffective.  Shortly after that, an officer involved shooting occurred.  The suspect was struck, but continued to resist officers.  Officers were able to detain him and rendered first aid until medical aid arrived.  The suspect was transported to AV Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit responded to conduct the officer involved shooting investigation.  Both officers involved in this incident were un-injured.  The officer who fired was placed on administrative leave.  The name of the suspect will be released at a later time by the coroner’s office.
