The Bakersfield Police Department has arrested a 22-year-old woman after a neighbor reported a foul odor coming from a residence in the 100 block of Bernard Street.

On August 11th, 2022, Bakersfield City Animal Control officers and Bakersfield Police Department detectives began an animal abuse investigation in the City of Bakersfield regarding the discovery of ten deceased dogs in closed kennels in an abandoned residence.

During the course of the investigation, search warrants were executed at three residences in the City of Bakersfield. As a result of the search warrants 29 living dogs were located suffering from various levels of neglect, three living cats and 11 deceased dogs were located. Bakersfield City Animal Control rescued and is in possession of the living animals.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Annie Schrieber (22) of Bakersfield, was operating an unlicensed private animal boarding and training business and was directly responsible for the neglect of the animals. Schrieber was not present at any of the residences during the course of the initial investigation.

On August 20th, 2022, investigators were able to locate Schrieber and she was arrested for 11 counts of felony animal abuse and other associated charges.

Several of the deceased and living animals were microchipped and the majority of owners of microchipped animals have been located and notified.
