Home Intruder Shot and Killed by Resident with Legally-Owned Firearm

The Bakersfield Police Department says no arrests have been made after a person shot someone attempting to force entry into a southwest Bakersfield home.

On September 12th, 2022, at 2:42 AM, Bakersfield Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 6900 block of North Half Moon Drive. Upon arrival, an adult male was located outside of an apartment, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting victim was attempting to force entry into an apartment, when a resident discharged a legally owned firearm, fatally striking the subject. The resident is cooperating with investigators.

The identity of the decedent will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

No arrests have been made. This is an ongoing investigation and the results will be submitted to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for review.
