The Kern County Housing Authority has cut the ribbon on its newest, affordable housing development. Executive Director Stephen Pelz says the 40, one-two-and-three bedroom units at the Parkside Apartments will help families who make less than 60-percent of the average median income. “The starting rents range from just under $400 a month to just under $800 a month, so substantially below market rents.” The $9-million gated community is on Austin Street and 1st Avenue. Pelz says there are six other developments under construction, with another eight to ten in the pre-development phase.
