Kern County Sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a man wanted on charges of attempted murder.

It happened Thursday morning when deputies attempting serve an arrest warrant encountered the 22-year-old at Belle Terrace Park.

Deputies first responded to a call from an alleged victim in the 1700 block of Cheatham Avenue, but eventually encountered the man at the park.

Scanner traffic indicates the shooting happened when the man tried to stab deputies.

KCSO says the man spent 180 days in jail for grand theft in 2023 and pleaded no contest to charges of child cruelty, threat, and battery last November.

His name has not been released.
