A 17-year-old girl is in the hospital after shooting a police officer in California City.

It happened shortly after 4 p.m. Monday after officers got reports of shots fired near Lime Avenue and Corwin Street.

The shooting occurred when the officer approached the girl who was walking towards Hickory Avenue.

The officer was struck in the leg. He fired back and struck the girl twice.

Both are listed in stable condition.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
