California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton made an appearance in Bakersfield Wednesday.

The former policy adviser to British Prime Minister David Cameron is campaigning to “Make California Golden Again.”

He told a crowd gathered at Hodel’s restaurant that he’s firmly behind Kern County’s agriculture and oil industries.

Hilton toured an oil facility in Kern County during his visit, and blames Governor Gavin Newsom for taking a number of actions against the oil industry including signing legislation restricting oil and gas operations near schools and homes, and pursuing lawsuits to hold oil companies accountable for climate damages.

Hilton one of several candidates running to replace Newsom who’s being termed out of office.
