A 16-year-old boy accidentally shot himself while he ran away from Bakersfield police.

Officers say they heard gunfire near Niles Street and Mount Vernon Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Three teenagers took off running after cops stopped their car. One of the teens had a gun and shot himself in the leg during the chase.

Police say the victim and another 16-year-old were apprehended and booked on gun charges.
