Officials with the Kern County Animal Shelter say a dog left inside a dumpster in east Bakersfield has died.

The pit bull affectionately called Rose died from blunt force trauma injuries most likely sustained from being run over by a car.

A video is being circulated online depicting the injured dog being wrapped in a blanket and being dropped inside the dumpster near Rusty’s Pizza in the 3300 block of Niles Street between 1:40 and 2 a.m. Monday.

A worker with Rusty’s Pizza says they called Animal Control after a homeless man alerted them to the dog crying in the dumpster. Rose was dead on arrival at Animal Services.

The search continues for the person responsible for dumping the animal. Anyone with information is asked to email animal services at kern county.com.
