A 32-year-old man is behind bars after an alleged attempted murder in Lamont.

Kern County Sheriffs deputies say Michael Ortiz broke into a home in the 9100 block of South Fairfax Road Tuesday morning, wrapped a blanket around the victim’s head, and stole a phone and some tools.

Hours later, a call about a stolen bike on South Sterling Road led deputies to Ortiz who allegedly had the bike and several other stolen items.

He was booked into Kern County Jail on charges including attempted murder, elder abuse, burglary, and grant theft.
