A young woman was stabbed to death Wednesday at a house in east Bakersfield, prompting authorities to issue a warning about the dangers of domestic violence.
Kern County Sheriff’s deputies say Taylor Estrada, 32, was killed Wednesday night, allegedly by her estranged husband Rafael Estrada, following a graduation pizza party for the victim’s middle-school-aged daughter.
Deputies say Rafael Estrada was not invited to the party in the 2400 block of Monterey Street but found out about it and showed up anyway. The killing reportedly took place as guests were leaving and was witnessed by at least one child.
Rafael Estrada was apprehended later on Taft Highway.
Lauren Skidmore with the Open Door Network, a domestic violence assistance agency in Kern County, told KGET-TV there is help for both victims and abusers.
“Relationships are hard,” she said. “It’s hard for this person that ends up being the aggressor and it’s hard for the victim. Before you become an aggressor and you put yourself in a situation that you could either harm somebody that you have a connection with, that you potentially love, and-or family members, that you should take a step back.”
