hearing set for accused killer

A hearing takes place Monday for a man suspected of slitting his estranged wife’s throat after a graduation party in east Bakersfield.

Rafael Estrada, 44, allegedly stabbed Taylor Estrada, 32, to death May 28 at a house in the 2400 block of Monterey Street. Kern County Sheriff’s deputies say Estrada was not invited to a party for Taylor’s daughter who had just graduated 8th grade, but showed up anyway and allegedly committed the murder with children present.

Estrada reportedly led deputies on a chase that ended with his capture in south Bakersfield.

Family members say the victim and Estrada had been together for fourteen years. They say she recently moved to Bakersfield from Oakland to escape alleged domestic abuse.

Estrada faces charges including first degree murder and child cruelty.
