The driver in a deadly drive-by shooting in Arvin has been sentenced to more than 33 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Jesus Rodriguez, 17 years old at the time of the crime, drove the car carrying a gunman who opened fire on a family, killing Liliana Jimenez, 10, and wounding her father and 12-year-old brother in July 2021.
Officials say the men were following the victims’ car and intended to kill whom they believed were rival gang members after noticing the father was wearing a hat typically worn by Arvin gang members.
The passenger in Rodrguez’s car opened fire on the victims after they parked at their home.
Rodriguez pleaded no contest Tuesday to charges of manslaughter, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, and carrying an unregistered loaded gun.
No one else has been charged in the killing.
