A Kern County jury has found a 28-year-old fugitive guilty of murder in a shooting in central Bakersfield.
Kira Burton was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder for killing Michael Stubbs, 32, in a car-to-car shooting near California Avenue and P Street in March 2022.
Burton drove up next to Stubbs’ vehicle and fired several shots into the car. Stubbs was hit several times in the head and neck and died at the scene.
Burton was arrested in North Dakota three months after the incident.
He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole when he’s sentenced in July.
