woman sentenced after bear spray incident, police chase

A Los Angeles woman who sprayed bear spray inside a Bakersfield business and led police on a high-speed chase will spend more than a year in prison.

Police say on June 3, Moenay Humphries, 24, got into an argument at a store in the 800 block of Union Avenue, sprayed the bear spray into the building’s HVAC system, then took off.

Officers later spotted Humphries’s car on Highway 58 where she led them on a chase hitting speeds of 110 miles per hour before crashing near Delano.

Humphries pleaded no contest Wednesday to charges of using tear gas, evading police, and driving without a license, and was sentenced to sixteen months behind bars. Two other charges were dismissed.

Authorities say Humphries has an active warrant for prostitution from outside Kern County.
