woman faces manslaughter charges after heat-related death of one-year-old

A woman faces manslaughter charges following the death of a child left inside a car in south Bakersfield.

Police responded Sunday afternoon to the 10 block of South Real Road to find two children, ages one and two, unattended inside a hot car with outside temperatures reaching between 99 and 101 degrees.

Police say the mother left them unattended for over two hours while she was inside a nearby medical spa.

The one-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital. The two-year-old is listed in stable condition and has been placed in protective custody.

The unidentified woman was arrested on charges including child abuse and involuntary manslaughter.
