The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who died after an explosion in Taft.

Jose Rios, 37, suffered thermal injuries to his body after an an explosion that occurred while he was reportedly manufacturing black powder fireworks at a house in the 1000 block of Loma Vista Avenue June 29.

Rios died the next day at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.

The coroner reports the cause of death was massive thermal injuries due to explosion and the manner was accidental.
