An alleged burglary attempt ended with the suspect being shot by a homeowner in Taft.

Kern County Sheriffs deputies were called to the house in the 300 block of Montview Avenue early Monday morning to find Felix Cortez, 36, suffering from a gunshot wound. He’s expected to survive.

The homeowner shot Cortez in the backyard of the house after Cortez allegedly charged the property owner while holding an unknown object.

Cortez faces charges including first degree burglary. He also had an outstanding warrant.
