The husband of Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez was charged Tuesday with making criminal threats, child cruelty, and resisting arrest.
Fernando Jara, 49, pleaded not guilty after allegedly threatening people at his home in the 1800 block of Alta Vista Drive in northeast Bakersfield on Saturday. He also allegedly threatened police officers and a crisis intervention specialist who responded to the emergency call.
He is said to have suffered a mental health crisis.
Jara was arrested after a partial SWAT callout and was taken into custody with minimal force.
Perez, the 5th District Supervisor, and the couple’s children, were not at home at the time of the arrest.
Jara remains in jail on $100,000 bail and returns to court July 25.
