Two men were apprehended after allegedly trying to hide from law enforcement inside a house in Taft.

It happened July 24, 2025, when Austin Casteel, 25, allegedly ran into a house in the 100 block of Madison Street in Ford City after spotting Kern County Sheriff’s deputies searching for suspects in the area.

The house was surrounded, and Casteel was arrested on a felony warrant for burglary and possession of stolen property.

A second suspect identified as Austin Young was also taken into custody on charges including resisting arrest and a burglary charge in connected with a crime on Lucard Street two days earlier.

One of the men hid inside the attic and finally surrendered to Taft Police and Kern County Sheriff’s deputies.

Casteel is free on bail. Young remains in custody on $65,000 bail.
