former sheriff’s deputy sentenced for sex crimes

A former Kern County Sheriff’s deputy will spend more than five years in prison for numerous sex crimes.

A judge on Thursday sentenced Michael Clark to five years and eight months, denied his request for a new trial, and ordered a 10-year restraining order and restitution to his victims.

Clark was convicted in June on eleven counts including sexual battery, assault, stalking, and false imprisonment after five different women accused him of assault. Two of the victims were convenience store workers, one was a woman Clark arrested, and others he met while on duty.

Clark admitted to making sexual comments and engaging in misconduct on duty but claimed some of the encounters were consensual .
