A Ridgecrest man is in custody after police say he tried to run down two Bakersfield firefighters.

Officers identified the suspect as Jason Hernandez, 40, who allegedly sped through a stop sign outside Fire Station One on 22nd Street last Tuesday and veered toward the firefighters as they jumped from the sidewalk to safety.

California Highway Patrol officers later arrested Hernandez after spotting his car in Interstate Five near Valencia.

Officers say they found a loaded gun inside Hernandez’s vehicle.
