hot-car murder trial postponed

Trial has been postponed for a Visalia woman whose 1-year-old son died after being left inside a hot car in southwest Bakersfield.

The murder trial of Maya Hernandez, 20, was delayed Monday to October 6 after the prosecuting attorney told the court she’s currently trying another case.

Hernandez is accused of leaving her one- and two-year old sons alone in her Toyota Corolla Hybrid for two hours — while she got a lip-filler injection at a medical spa on Real Road June 29.

1-year-old Amillio Gutierrez died at the hospital after his body temperature was recorded at 107 degrees. The 2-year-old survived.

Hernandez told police she thought the children would be okay because she left the car running with the air-conditioning on. The car automatically shuts off after an hour if no action is taken.
