bakersfield man sentenced for fatal assault

A Bakersfield man convicted of a fatal attack has been sentenced to seven years behind bars.

Jeffrey Sellers, 21, was convicted in August of involuntary manslaughter and assault in the death of Michael Davis, 62.

Prosecutors say Sellers punched Davis in the face after Davis’s dog entered his yard in the 9700 block Greenacres Drive in September 2022.

Davis went into a coma and died several months later after falling backwards and hitting his head on concrete.

Sellers claimed Davis was wielding a baseball bat at the time of the attack.
