The head men’s basketball coach at Cal State Bakersfield is stepping down.

Rod Barnes said Wednesday his resignation was immediate.

The decision comes just weeks after CSUB assistant basketball coach Kevin Mays was charged with several crimes including pimping, pandering, and possessing child pornography.

Soon after, CSUB announced Athletic Director Kyle Conder was no longer with the university.

Assistant Coach Mike Scott will serve as interim head coach in Barnes’s place.

Barnes coached CSUB for 14 seasons.
