A former teacher at Arvin High School has learned his fate after having sex with a student.

Michael Parra, 44, was sentenced Thursday to two years probation and 180 days in Kern County Jail.

He must also register as a sex offender and obey a 10 year protective order.

Investigators says Parra had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student in 2023.

Parra accepted a plea deal in August.

The student’s family has filed a civil lawsuit against the Kern High School District.
