BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — The husband of Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez is headed to mental health treatment.
Fernando Jara, 49, was granted mental health diversion on Wednesday following his arrest July 12 after a police standoff at the couple’s home on Alta Vista Drive.
Jara faced charges including making criminal threats, willful cruelty to a child, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer or emergency medical technician, for allegedly threatening people inside the home and refusing to cooperate with police.
The case will be dismissed if Jara completes up to two years of treatment and follows all court orders.
A restraining order remains in place, barring Jara from contacting Perez or the couple’s children.
