suspected shooter arrested after year-old killing

BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — One year later, a teenager has been arrested after a fatal shooting at a southwest Bakersfield shopping center.

Albert Briseno, Jr., 15, was apprehended Monday in connection to the shooting death November 10, 2024, of Prince Banner, 15, during a scuffle involving several teenagers in the parking lot of the Marketplace on Ming Avenue.

The arrest comes after the DA’s Office initially determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed, and referred the case back to the police.

Banner died at the hospital a day after the shooting. Briseno surrendered to police two days after the incident, but was released.

He faces charges including first-degree murder and possession of a handgun by a minor. He goes to court December 1.
