BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A female inmate is back in custody after reportedly escaping from Kern County Sheriff’s deputies at Kern Medical.

Erica Toledo, 29, allegedly gave deputies the slip at around 3:15 a.m. Friday after deputies brought her to the hospital on Mt. Vernon Avenue for medical treatment.

Hospital staff reported seeing Toledo running away from the facility.

Toledo was apprehended about thirty minutes later at Mt. Vernon and Niles Street.

Toledo is the second inmate this year who allegedly escaped from custody while being treated at Kern Medical. Francisco Garcia, 22, reportedly escaped in September and was captured after a three-day manhunt.
