BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Authorities have released the name of a man shot to death by California Highway Patrol officers after a high-speed chase that ended south of Bakersfield.
James Peattie, 58, allegedly began shooting at CHP officers during the pursuit Monday that started in Wasco when he reportedly showed up at the Wasco police station where his ex-girlfriend was seeking help to enforce a restraining order against him.
The Highway Patrol took over the chase from Wasco police and stopped Peattie’s SUV on southbound Highway 99 at Bear Mountain Boulevard. That’s when Peattie was fatally shot after allegedly firing at officers when he got out of the vehicle.
Authorities say Peattie had a domestic violence restraining order, and had past violations of that order.
