BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A Bakersfield man is accused of shooting his son to death during a drunken fight over an electric bill.

Kern County Sheriff’s deputies say Jose Preciado, 52, fired a handgun inside a home in the 2700 block of Center Street on November 22, 2025.

One round reportedly went into the ceiling, and the other bullet allegedly struck Angel Preciado, 23, in the chest.

He died at the scene.

Jose Preciado faces a murder charge and is being held without bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January.
