BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Bakersfield police shot and killed a man during a welfare check in south Bakersfield.

It happened late Friday night when officers responded to calls of a man with a gun who was threatening family members in the 3700 block of El Alisal Street.

BPD says shots were fired at the man who resisted their commands. He died at the scene.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative.
