BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — The mother of embattled former Kern County Supervisor Zack Scrivner is under fire for reportedly trying to cover up alleged child abuse.

Kathy Scrivner was reportedly at her son’s house in Tehachapi when the former District 2 supervisor allegedly sexually abused one of his minor children in April 2024.

At a recent diversion hearing for Zack Scrivner, prosecutor Joseph Penny made serious allegations against Kathy Scrivner, claiming she told her grandchildren not to cooperate with Kern County Sheriff’s deputies who responded to the home, and is reportedly upset with her sister, Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer, who reported the incident to Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood.

Kathy Scrivner is a member of the Kern High School District board, and is a trained mandated reporter who is obligated to report allegations of crimes against children.

In December 2025, Zack Scrivner was granted mental health diversion after pleading not guilty to charges including child cruelty and possession of firearms.

No sex-related charges were filed.
