BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — The Bakersfield Police Department has identified an officer who shot a suspect following a traffic stop in northwest Bakersfield.

Pedro Sarabia has been with the department since November 2023 and remains on administrative leave after shooting a suspect identified as Fabien Lopez.

Lopez allegedly got into a scuffle with Sarabia after reportedly running from a car during the traffic stop on Latina Drive and Pisa Way on December 29, 2025.

Lopez is in critical but stable condition. Sarabia was not injured.

BPD says Sarabia has not been involved in any prior officer-involved shootings.
